Guest Blogger: Sweet Nothings

July 29th, 2011

Hello Twirly Skirts readers! I am Danielle of Sweet Nothings, and I am so honored to be guest blogging over here on Molliee’s blog! I’ve actually known Molliee for quite some time-we both are proud graduates of Saint Mary’s College, so I’ve seen her fabulous outfits in person.

I’m posting today about one of the biggest trend right now-color blocking. It is something I love, celebrities and fashion bloggers alike are trying it-and when done correctly, it is really fabulous.

On the red carpet:

Camille Belle in Gucci

Emma Stone in Lanvin

Jessica Alba in DVF

To the office:

Eva Longoria in Victoria Beckham

Pippa Middleton in Zara

This look is probably as bold as I would be able to go: a basic top and bright pants

and here is how I recreate the look with fabulous DVF trousers

I am so glad to have Megan Abigail Chandler, the blogger behind bellissimo guest blogging for me today while I am on vacation. Enjoy her summer loves below and make sure to venture over to her amazing blog!

The summertime boasts a very unique style. Because of the overwhelming heat, the days are slower and fabrics are lighter, so we have to rely on certain tricks to styling to make sure you look cool when it’s so damn hot.

First, leopard prints are phenomenal when paired with bright pops of color. Hot pink pants, a leopard belt and a great tank … well throw that on and a night out with the girls just turned into a fashion show. Slip on those Steve Madden Leopard slippers with a black mini and an awesome cobalt blue swingy top and you’ll knock him dead on date night. That is one accessory that can cross the seasons and look insanely hot on you when it is too hot outside.

And in that same breath pops of color are good tools on which to rely. Whether it be a great color on your nails or a fantastic piece of jewelry (that Kenneth Jay Lane number is a killer) or a lightweight scarf when you step into heavily air-conditioned movie theaters or restaurants, pops of color are fantastic styling tools when paired with your one and only LBD.

Light colors are a must. Nude is my pick, though I think white is fantastic too, but to spice it up and pronounce you more of a grownup, nude is the way to go (and its great for showing off a good tan).

Finally, scrounging up fantastic home finds is another daytime activity alternative to roasting in the sun. Isn’t that Anthropologie bed nuts?

Happy summer time, folks. Knock ‘em out with killer style.

Hi there! I’m Kristina over at beancakes, and I’m honored that Molliee has invited me for a guest post today! I would like to share with you, my favorites for summer travel! I like to go as light as possible. Not only does this make for an easy and no-stress trip, but it also makes it a great excuse to do some extra shopping!

I pack mostly light-weight clothing in neutral colors, therefore, everything pairs well together. I also leave my treasured jewelry at home, so there’s no need to worry about theft. I like to wear mostly cotton tank tops with skirts and shorts. And lightweight cardigans make for great coverups in the evenings. Also, bunching and rolling together your garments will help them to not wrinkle quite as much. The basic idea here is to pack as little as possible. And the very most important thing to do while vacationing, is to enjoy yourself and try and be in the moment. Remember to snap many photos as well, because it’s so nice to look back on all of your fun memories.

Well, I hope that you learned a new thing or two, and I really enjoyed posting here today. Please stop by my blog and say hello! And a wonderful thank you to Molliee!!

xoxo ~ Kristina {author of beancakes}

A Simple Tank Dress

July 21st, 2011

dress: Loft (France), shoes: Target

One thing I love about summer is the summer dresses. Just one piece to throw on and you are good to go. What’s even better is when the dress comes with a waist cincher like this one. This lucky girl was given this classic dress by my boyfriend’s family a few summers ago in France. The dress is a simple 2 layer cotton tank with a belt that you can wear tied like I do here, or up on one shoulder instead. I have worn this tied up on the shoulder before and added my own brown belt. Many women in France wear simple dresses like this all summer. It is easy and classic but the overall look is effortless chic. Get the look in the US with these finds: ♥
