Another Micro Print: Leopard

March 31st, 2011

top: lush at Nordstrom, jeans: Joe's, shoes: Target, cuff: Tory Burch

If there is one pattern that has proven to stand the test of time, it is animal print. I just can’t get enough! The variations are practically endless with how designers create pieces incorporating everything from leopard to giraffe to tiger prints. I snagged this lush top at Nordies and love how tiny the leopard print is! From far away you can’t even tell it is leopard. The top is sheer and flowy, with a crop cut that is just a tad longer in the back than the front. Here I paired it with 70’s esque wide leg jeans and studded platforms. The added pop of this huge Tory Burch cuff is a nice contrast on the otherwise neutral outfit. I know this will be the first of many leopard-inspired posts – so here’s to hoping you all love animal print as much as I do! (get the look with this leopard blouse)♥

Beaded Necklaces on the Cheap

March 30th, 2011

After falling instantly in lust with this shockingly intricate neon necklace featured on The Zoe Report I knew I had to find myself substitutes stat. Being that this Tom Binns Hand Painted Crystal Massai Necklace has a price tag in the thousands, it is simply not in my budget. But fear not! I ventured right on over to Etsy and started my search for similar necklaces. Not only did I find some similar necklaces – but I found others that had some features in common (beading, neon colors etc) but are unique and homemade. Click on the images below to be taken right to the site where you can buy them from Etsy! You and your wallet can thank me later. ♥

Spring Forward with Florals

March 29th, 2011

I am loving floral prints right now – which is nothing surprising given Spring is near. When I saw this skirt with a micro floral print I had to have it. I could imagine styling it in so many ways at first glance. One being how I did yesterday in these photos with tights and a long sleeve tee. I threw on this crocheted vest for added interest. For Spring and Summer I plan on ditching the tights and pairing it with bright white, bold colors or lacy tops. This skirt will be a staple for months to come and I don’t think I’ll ever get bored with it! ♥

The Fishtail Braid

March 28th, 2011

This week at work my coworkers and I got talking about the fishtail braid. We all decided it needs to get more attention because it is extremely underrated. After discussing it and then doing this demo on my coworker Courtney’s hair (above), I was inspired to find more ways to make this braid work. First, this how to I found on Allure will give you the steps to master the technique. Practice makes perfect! Then I found these variations on the braid as seen on celebrities to experiment. This braid is much easier to practice on someone else, so if you can, find a friend (or a coworker) to experiment with. ♥

My Sparkly Hat

March 25th, 2011

hat: Arden B., sweater: Nordstrom, skirt/belt: Target, boots: London Fog, trench: H&M

Yesterday I knew I wanted to wear this sparkly Arden B. hat for a few reasons, most importantly because the rain was making my  hair flatter than flat! I have been obsessed with this hat since I bought it a few months ago and it never ceases to make any outfit more fashionable. I have been meaning to try it more pulled back on my head a la Rachel Zoe on this Fashion Plus blog post. Here I used it to add some spunk to an otherwise muted outfit. Along with my just-as-fun belt, this outfit is all about the accessories! I have been coveting these other floppy hats as well from Urban Outfitters and Eugenia Kim as seen on Kim Kardashian. Experiment with a hat this weekend and share your topper choices! ♥
